I’m a choir leader, singer, and singing teacher with a deep belief that singing can make life happier and more connected — it’s an essential part of life, not just an activity. I run Happy Helly Choir, my own community choir, and work with Military Wives Choirs as a permanent conductor for North London and the Virtual Choir, as well as leading larger one-off events for the wider organisation. I also work in schools as a singing teacher and choir leader, guiding young voices to grow in confidence and skill. In addition, I lead a Widows Choir in partnership with the Karen Sutton Widow Coach network, providing a supportive and joyful space for shared music-making. Alongside all this, I perform regularly as a mezzo-soprano across Hertfordshire, bringing music to audiences in concerts, church performances, and special events.
After a long and successful career in the UK secondary school system as a Head of Music, I decided I wanted to specialise in singing more and so left to pursue a career in singing teaching. In the past few years I have run lessons for children in singing and drama and conducted various choirs from children to adults at some of the most prestigious locations in London and the surrounding area.
I firmly believe that singing really can make you happier. There are countless scientific studies which show the hugely beneficial effect singing has on both the mind and the body. Singing has been shown to release endorphins (happy hormones!) and lower cortisol in your blood steam leading to a happier and calmer you! It can even stimulate your immune response - a definite advantage in this modern world!

Absolutely not! Some of our choir members can read music and I therefore do provide scores, but most of our participants use lyrics sheets provided by me
Back during the first lockdown in 2020, I was delighted to lead the warm up for this episode of the Great British Chorus
Much of my work rehearsing choirs is done behind the scenes and very often I can't talk about it as its all very secret! I was asked to rehearse a special Military Wives Choir for a project with Gareth Malone for the BBC Last Night of the PROMS. Due to the Queen's funeral, this was actually broadcast at Children In Need 2022. Very proud of this one!
